Supply List:
Explore the creative options with Georgie Melot's tried-and-true methods. Learn the ins, outs, overs and unders of your serger! Ready, Set, Serge is a fun, informative book that rewards you with success every time.
Georgie's encouraging, learn-by-doing approach guides you through the basics so you'll be creating simple but attractive projects in no time. Gift bags, book covers, pot holders, bath mitts and other attractive pieces can be made from fabric scraps and fat quarters, or from ready-made items such as bath towels.
In Ready, Set, Serge you'll find:
- slippery decoration ball
- Glazed plate (from dollar store)
- Acrylic paint (in some colors)
- Paintbrush
- Mod Podge sealer (regular or glitter)
Important Note: You need to use a slippery decoration ball because a matte ball has no cling. Your "palette" (the plate) needs to have a glazed end so your dried paint will have the permissible cling. Check out your local dollar store for a cheap glazed plate. Also wax paper or a plastic surface does not give the paint adequate cling.
Instructions:
1. Rule on the paint colors you want to use. Your closed decoration will be covered with personel circles of paint. So you should Rule on a color task for your decoration before you begin. We propose two colors in each circle and two or three separate sets of these colors. An example would be red swirled with gold for one circle of paint and then green swirled with gold for an additional one circle of paint.
2. On your plate, squirt out some paint (about the size of a large pea) for each color in your circle. Be sure to put the paint dabs for each circle very close to each other.
3. Swirl the dabs of paint together using the end (Not the bristles) of your paintbrush. It takes very miniature mixing to get a beautiful swirl design. Too much blending and you just get a new color! Make each circle of paint about the size of a quarter. To cover a standard size decoration ball, make about 30 to 35 circles.
4. Once you have completed all of your circles of paint, let them dry for at least 12 hours. They need to be fully dry before you take off them from the plate.
5. Now considered peel one dried paint circle off your plate. If you have any edges along your circles that you do not like, they can be cut off actually with scissors. Start by placing your circles around the neck of the decoration and work your way down from there. Press each one on so that it fully adheres to your ornament, and without any wrinkles. Continue to peel the circles off your plate one at a time. Be sure each circle is firmly pressed onto your decoration and that there are no cracks in the middle of circles. Just overlap each circle a miniature to avoid any cracks. Continue until your decoration is fully covered in circles.
6. Paint a coat of Mod Podge sealer over your whole ornament. Then hang it to dry for at least 24 hours.
You could be so creative with this technique. Maybe try stripes or a zig-zag pattern. Have some fun with this task and see what great looking designs you can come up with!

Simple, Fun Projects Let Kids Learn While They Play
With its easy-to-follow instructions, Snap Circuits gives your child a hands-on education in how electrical circuits work to run the everyday devices that they're familiar with. They'll also gain valuable lessons in building and in following instructions. The project manual includes large color illustrations and simple directions for each project.
The projects include a sound-activated switch, a musical doorbell, a voice-controlled lamp, a flying saucer, and a light police siren. With these projects, children will experiment with things like electric switches, integrated circuits, digital circuits, fuses, and the transformation of circuit sounds into other sounds.
Grow as You Go
Because the projects are arranged in order of complexity, kids can build on their skills as they progress through the manual. The lessons start out with a simple electric light and switch project that demonstrates how electricity is turned on and off with a switch. Further along, kids can put together a two-speed fan, create clap-controlled sounds, and more.
Design Your Own Circuits and Upgrade Your Kit
Once children have mastered several of the techniques introduced in this kit, they can use the components to experiment and create their own customized circuits and electronic devices. The Snap Circuits Jr. SC-100 can also be upgraded to the Snap Circuits SC-300, Snap Circuits Pro, or Snap Circuits Extreme with the purchase of a UC-30, UC-40, UC-60 upgrade kits, respectively. Kids will enjoy additional parts, manuals, and projects that'll take their kit--and their fun--to the next level.
Snap Circuits Jr. SC-100 requires two AA batteries, which are not included.
What's in the Box
Plastic snap-grid, 32 electrical components, and 1 project manual.

Find a nice block of wood that's a limited larger than the picture you want to use. Sand that piece of wood down smoothly, then coat it with a nice stain color. You can leave the wood natural too if you'd prefer.
Next cover it with a few coats of clear sealant. When the last coat has started to dry, it will become tacky, or sticky, so it will act like glue. Place your picture centered on the wood and press it down firmly. Make sure there are no air pockets underneath.
Let this dry completely for some hours, then cover the entire thing - picture and all - with an additional one few coats of clear sealant or finish.
You can use a family picture for this project as well, and you can even use a much larger piece of wood and create a whole collage using multiple pictures.
Once the project is fully finished, you can attach a small wire or cord to the back for use in hanging, or you can buy an reasonable hanging hook from a craft or hardware store.
2. Embellishment pictures. This idea is done almost the exact same way, but the main inequity is you'll make Christmas tree ornaments out of your pictures. Just buy some flat, light weight wood pieces at a craft store, or by some plywood and cut it into the shapes and sizes you want.
Then put small wallet sized pictures on them using glue or the end mentioned above. You might even paint these in dissimilar colors first, then apply the pictures over the painted wood. This gives them a "frame" of their own within the shape of the ornament.
Drill or punch a small hole in the top of the wood piece, then thread some pretty matching ribbon through for hanging.
